THOUGHTFUL BY DESIGN

Your files.
Your decisions.

A desktop workspace should respect your documents and your choices. Here's how Sail PDF approaches both.

Everyday work stays on your device.

Reading, annotations and standard edits are processed locally. No application account is required to use these tools.

AI connections are your choice.

On-device models run on your Mac. Custom AI services receive the document context needed for the task. Choose a service you trust.

Changes deserve a safety net.

Recovery drafts include form values. Save validation and external file conflict checks help you stay in control of your work.

Open to inspection. Open to contribution.

The application source uses Apache 2.0. Read the code, report an issue, or help improve the next version.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you begin.

Can't find your answer?

Ask on GitHub
Can I use Sail PDF in English or Chinese?

Yes. English is the default. Change the app interface to Simplified Chinese in Settings, and your preference will be saved. Interface language does not translate PDF text, notes, forms or existing conversations. The assistant answer language is a separate setting.

Which platforms are supported?

The current packaged beta is for Apple Silicon Macs. A browser build is available from source. Windows, Linux and Intel Mac installers are not part of this release.

Do I need an AI service to use Sail PDF?

No. Reading, editing, annotations and page tools work without an AI connection. To use the assistant, download a supported on-device model in the app or configure your own OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

Standard document tools process files locally. If you choose a custom AI service, the context needed for your request is sent to that service. The app does not automatically upload documents or diagnostic reports.

What should I know about the beta?

Keep backups of important documents and review exported results, especially for complex layouts or fonts. This build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple. First launch may require explicit approval in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Paragraph reflow, some font types and flattened annotations have editing limitations.

Can I use and modify the source?

Yes, under the Apache License 2.0 and its conditions. Third-party software, fonts and models retain their own licenses. The repository includes the license and attribution notices.
